1944, a crucial year.

The Occupation ended and it was time for the Liberation.

It was the return of fighting to Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Far from being a replica of 1940, it was accompanied by immense destruction, reflecting technological progress. If the men have not changed, their planes are faster, more powerful and more numerous.

From the preparations for the Provence landing to the pursuit of the Wehrmacht along the Rhone, the Allies followed a pre-established plan and implemented it in a strict and rigorous manner. From the beaches of the Var to the Lyon region, the populations welcomed their liberators.

The epic is preceded, accompanied and followed by a noria of planes, each one more different from the other. The skies were the first to change masters and became the scene of epic battles. 

1945 saw the collapse of the Reich and the end of a war that had lasted almost six years. The Alps were only calmed down on the threshold of the surrender, since a battle, which today is almost forgotten, took place there until the end of April.

In this second opus, the authors describe the last 18 months of the conflict in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, which is usually little commented on in works dealing with the period. In addition to the account of military actions, the daily life of the population is illuminated by numerous testimonies.
