The Latécoère 298 is certainly one of the best-known aircraft used by our naval aviators, but paradoxically, it is also one whose story has never been truly told in detail. While in the past, emphasis has often been placed, and rightly so, on the last-ditch actions carried out by the crews of the torpedo squadrons in northern France in May and June 1940, little has been written about the ten years that followed these dramatic events. Ten years during which the Laté continued to serve faithfully, often in obscure roles, before finally disappearing from the ranks of the French Naval Aviation.
