Banned from racing until the end of the season after the events of the Portimão race, Michel Vaillant is going through a period of doubt. Disturbed by the determination of his son, engaged in an enterprise that he considers incompatible with the family values, Michel Vaillant decides to take up a new challenge: to beat the speed record with an electric car on the Bonneville Salt Lake in the United States. The pressure on his shoulders was great. The credibility and prestige of the Vaillant factories were at stake in this performance. He had no right to fail, both with regard to the sponsors and to his father, the family patriarch, who had never hidden his contempt for electric cars. Added to this tension are Françoise's worries, concerned about the risks Michel will take by driving this prototype.
