5 September 1970, Austria loses a national hero: Jochen Rindt has died. A dazzling personality, the 1965 Le Mans winner started out racing on airfields before making his mark on Formula 2 and rising to the highest level of motor sport. He was posthumously crowned Formula One World Champion. Born in Germany, he grew up in Austria, raised by protective grandparents after losing his parents during the war. The book tells the story of his childhood, his blossoming at puberty, his stormy and rapid career and his tragic end at Monza. It is the portrait of a man with a thousand faces.
Erich Glavitza, journalist, author, race driver and stuntman, but also a doctor of philosophy, knew Rindt well. He portrays the driver's dazzling and sensitive personality with his unique style. He describes Rindt's impetuous character and his little-known and special relationship with his half-brother, with whom Glavitza spoke at length. Finally, Erich Glavitza analyses in detail the fatal accident and the responsibility of Lotus.
This comprehensive book on Jochen Rindt is richly illustrated with photos, some of which have never been published before, taken in private and during races. The photos are by Alois Rottensteiner, who was close to Rindt and the world of Formula 1. The foreword is by Bernie Ecclestone.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the driver's death, McKlein is publishing this large-format, 400-page biography in an elegant hardback case.
