Continuing in this perspective, that is to say by treating the material and the men with an equal concern of exhaustiveness, this very awaited volume 2 is organized in two parts: the first 150 pages constitute the extraordinarily detailed and reasoned catalogue of the technical forms of the fortification of the North-East: works and casemates, armour plating of all types, armoured bells for firing or observation, eclipse turrets, artillery pieces and light collective weapons under concrete, interval artillery, railways supplying the works and running through the underground galleries, command posts, shelters, factories and underground power stations, means of transmission, etc. , enriched with 260 photos from the period or taken more recently in the field. Such a collection constitutes the most complete technical file ever published on this fascinating subject.

The men serving all this equipment are, more particularly, artillerymen, traditionally known as "learned weapons". The second part of this volume reviews, in great detail, their uniforms and insignia, the fortified area artillery regiments (RARF) with a mobile vocation, and the position artillery regiments (RAP) supplying the concrete gunners and the batteries positioned on the intervals. Around 150 period photos of the troops and almost 70 badges illustrate this second part.

Finally, the engineers of the fortress, with their many specialities (miners, electromechanics, railway engineers, signallers, etc.) close this very rich volume.
