THE 36TH AMERICAN INFANTRY DIVISION “TEXAS DIVISION”

Reference : 9791038013438
Year : NC

The 36th American Infantry Division "Texas Division". Allied liberation units, Italy, Provence, Rhône Valley, Vosges, Germany, by Stéphane Lavit and Vincent Sniprat.

This work is the only one in French telling the history of the 36th Infantry Division of the United States Army, from its creation to the present day. This large unit, nicknamed "Texas Division", took part in the First World War.

Between the two wars, it once again became a reserve formation within the Texas National Guard. It was reactivated in 1941 and fought throughout the Second World War, in Sicily then in Italy where it distinguished itself. Landed on August 15, 1944 in Provence, then attached to Task Force Butler, it played a crucial role in thwarting the retreat of the 19th German Army in the Rhône valley. The 36th took an active part in the Vosges and Alsace campaign during the winter of 1944-1945, until the capitulation of Germany.

The history of this division is linked to the works already published by Sophia Histoire & Collections, on the 1st and 45th divisions of the US Army, on the battle of Montélimar, and on the 11th Panzerdivision, which it faced several times. times.
